Justice: Archetype & Symbolism

Justice emerges as the ultimate embodiment of equality, fairness, and truth. Depicting a figure holding the scales of justice and a sword, this card symbolises the need for balance, impartiality, and the alignment of our actions with ethical principles. At the heart of Justice lies the concept of equilibrium — the scales, linked to Libra, signify the careful weighing of decisions, actions, and their repercussions. The sword, representing truth and discernment, underscores the idea that justice is not only about impartiality but also about upholding moral clarity. The card urges us to make fair and impartial assessments of situations, reminding us that bias or prejudice only poison ethical conduct. Evaluating our actions and choices with an objective lens over a long period of time, we become deeply aware of the consequences and implications we have faced as a result over the years. Justice encourages a healthy attitude towards karma and a thoughtful consideration of the impact our decisions may have on ourselves and others, emphasising accountability. Only the truth is beautiful, explaining the card’s linkage with the planet Venus.

Justice: Advice, Lesson & Higher Wisdom

Life is the art of balance. Justice knows this — it teaches us that learning to do the right thing and learning what is sustainable for us brings inner balance and hence true joy. Pleasure is short-lived and rarely worth the price, yet joy is sustainable. Joy is a spiritual station, a platform beneath which we cannot fall once we have attained it, simply because we do not know anything but joy. Through taking a responsible, long-term approach to life, we focus on the constant pursuit of harmony and stability to balance our lives. Strongly associated with the sign Libra, the Justice card is also intimately tied to the concept of fairness. Although subjective, fairness arises when we intuitively know we are doing the right thing. Sometimes, the ego comes up with the wrong idea and consulting the soul becomes difficult. Community feedback, however, can tell us how well we are doing. Fairness is a reflection of inner and outer balance — if we pay close attention, external circumstances always provide feedback to make adjustments on this path. If our body is healthy, our is environment safe, and our connections are nurturing, this feedback of harmony is evidence of being on the path of joy. And this is the balance Justice seeks.
