Exposure, Vulnerability, Evolution

When Pluto transits the most sensitive planet in our chart, the Moon, we can expect to encounter ourselves at the deepest, most vulnerable level. This transit isn’t for the faint of heart — extremely challenging and demanding, Pluto square Moon is often experienced and remembered as one of the most difficult phases in our life. What previously evoked a sense of safety and comfort, including our physical and emotional sense of home, our relationships with our mother, sisters, partners or other important women, may now be stripped from us or demand serious reappraisal.

Repressed pain, emotional dependencies, obsessive-compulsive behaviours, unhealthy attachments, innate fears as well as trauma, engraved deeply into our emotional memory and perhaps having seethed beneath the surface for decades, can now be catapulted outward with the force of an erupting volcano. Crawling out from the abyss of our subconscious, what emerges may at first come out inappropriately, alienating, shocking and possibly even hurting others. Yet no matter how triggering or deeply uncomfortable the truths we reveal now are — we must bring these dark energies to light. We are urged not to antagonise others or engage in power games to mask the intensely-felt insecurity and vulnerability we feel as a result of this inner turmoil — this will only backfire and submerge us deeper into emotional chaos. Instead, we must have faith that only our realest, most vulnerable version will attract the realest people and the truest, most authentic connections

Mother, Sister, Woman, Home

Representing the feminine ‘yin’ principle, the Moon is symbolic of maternal figures,  important women in our lives and the home. Transits to the Moon often bring important re-adjustments in our domestic arrangements or profound relationship changes with women. The connection and attachment we have nurtured with our mother, girlfriend, wife, sister or any other important woman may need to be re-evaluated — have we endured or sustained unhealthy patterns, such as codependency, fear of abandonment, martyrdom, unequal or other toxic ways of relating? If this is the case, this transit will force us to address, purge and cleanse our habitual way of relating with these women to start afresh. This may come in the form of loss, break up, or therapy. While it may now be tempting to indulge in power games as a coping mechanism, this only delays our healing and our emotional maturation.

More positively, this transit allows us to forge relationships based on honesty, truthfulness and authenticity, where our softness is never mistaken for weakness, and our vulnerability is treasured rather than used against us. Our home can now be re-conceptualised as a space of sanctuary and peace, and we are given the opportunity to relocate, re-evaluate or cleanse this space to align it with our newfound sense of emotional awakening and maturation.

Attachment, Release, Cleanse

We meet ourselves where our deepest pain lies. This is the single most terrifying yet also rewarding event we will face in this lifetime, which breeds nothing but the truth, lightening our load and leaving us with a profound sense of relief. The journey inward brought by this transit may call for the help of a mentor, counsellor or psychologist — possibly a powerful woman, since the Moon is involved — who guides us in our journey to establish an inner base of security again. Forced to rely on our inner resources, emotional stability, and ability to nurture ourselves, this transit demands staunch resilience and undying faith in our ability to re-invent ourselves even after the deepest pain. At its core, we are given the blessing to build a new home based purely on the relationship we have with ourselves. As we accommodate our newfound sense of safety, utterly independent of other people or external circumstances, we begin to express our needs directly, openly, authentically, and find the connections we deserve.
