Fasting For The Soul
A Pluto transit sharpens and intensifies that which already is: the force of friction necessary to destroy, change or elevate the shapes and forms we have grown accustomed to in our lives does not renounce pain or discomfort. As shifting tectonic plates within us scrape against each other, we are encouraged to observe this process with awe rather than fear, confident that the new forms coming into being will, once integrated, seamlessly fit together in sacred harmony. Like a deep and ruthless cleanse, we are rebooted and recalibrated at the very core, and emerge with an entirely new sense of self and purpose.
A Pluto transit in Goethe’s words, taken from his work ‘Faust’:
“formation, transformation, eternal mind's eternal recreation”
This sacred purging, taking place in our minds and our bodies, requires our submission to the process: the readiness to embrace renewal and re-emergence, even if painful, will accelerate our home-making on this new continent. New and highly individualised territory is delineated during this time, enclosed by new boundaries that hold the space for new involvements, expression of being, and relationships with self and others. We emerge as a crystallised version of ourselves, free to build on this land a clean home for our authentic essence self.
Obsessions and Dependencies
A Pluto transit will force unhealthy dependencies in relation to a person, an object, a substance or an idea, to untether. What we radiate outward in the form of preoccupations and obsessions will deepen and take on further extremes or lose all meaning. Relationships that assume shape during this period require answers from the depth of the heart, demanding purity, authenticity and ruthless self-revelation.
Pluto’s regenerative prowess establishes and protects our individuality by destroying that which masks or distorts it. Outdated beliefs, relationships, living circumstances or work arrangements must completely disintegrate in order to be reborn. We are left with crystallised versions of ourselves, changed forms and new finite conclusions. With Pluto, there is but one solution: surrender. Resistance creates only suffering, as excess potential on an energetic basis must be re-balanced. Acceptance is recognising the right of existence of something, considering its meaning and passing by indifferently, waving goodbye as it leaves.
Acceptance of Self, Revelation of Truth
During a Pluto transit, we can no longer contain the impulses, drives or responses that were previously hidden away, and the force with which they emerge may well be directly proportional to how deeply they were buried. We become pregnant with our own buried depths and are tasked with birthing these into the world. The pain of delivery, at least, has purpose: engendering powerful emotions, it peels away our accumulated layers of protection, stripping away our skin until we are vulnerable and naked, our primal selves exposed. The world is reduced to its most intense elements; outer events move out of focus. However, after this descent, comes growth: through focus, hard work, a mobilisation of resources and the will to survive, we tumble through grief and gratitude, despair and bliss, and give birth to a new version of self.
