The Uranus Transit: Revolutionary Self-Liberation

Tempest From Heaven
Highly charged and unpredictable, Uranus awakens palpably new ways of acting, feeling or understanding ourselves and the world around us. A strong impulse to cut off, split or separate in some way may emerge, and we are unlikely to be patient in this process, especially with those slower than us or those standing in our way. There is little inclination to be apologetic — we do not flinch as we shock other people, nor ourselves, and we do not opt for the grey zone — black and white is the way to go. The creative potential that emerges from this jolt of energy is limitless, breaking through convention or expectation with progressive and experimental bravery.
Uranus’s spark of vitality will unsettle dull routines, outdated modes of behaviour or perception and dethrone small-mindedness, demanding sacrifice to achieve its ultimate goal: freedom. The potential for rashly making mistakes is markedly pronounced as we launch our very own little revolution during this period, now more emotionally detached from our environment than ever before. There is often an element of ‘the other’, ’the group’, and the exaltation of personal space: events and relationships that manifest during this time are characterised by elements of personal autonomy, societal unconventionality, and often in the pursuit of serving a greater good or ideal. We suddenly greatly attract or repel, with no in-between: experienced as a brutal departure from previously held norms, the ego may respond to Uranus’s disruptive energy with desperate self-aggrandisement or clever non-attachment.
Gustave Flaubert’s famous heroine Madame Bovary neatly sums up a Uranus transit:
“[it] had to come, suddenly, with great bursts of thunder and lightning flashes, a hurricane from heaven that falls upon your life and turns it upside down, pulls out your will power like leaves and hurls your entire heart into the abyss.”
Genius or Madness?
Under a Uranus transit, the electrical circuit we rely on to power our life and which mostly operates in autopilot receives a jolt. A light bulb has been switched on inside of us, and we may become recklessly experimental, illuminating or electrocuting those around us with our power of awakening and uprooting commonly accepted norms in our ruthless pursuit of the truth. If suppressed, the release of potential this transit encourages will blow a fuse, wreaking havoc in obnoxious ways. If integrated, intelligence is complemented by genius. Yet minds incapable of assimilating this restless force will come into contact with chaos. Such is the test of Uranus: artfully dance along the precipice of sanity, and you will be rewarded with unheard-of wisdom and brilliance of thought.
